Welcome » Baja, Mexico

Baja, Mexico

I recently was able to make a month long trip down the world's third longest peninsula: Baja Mexico.

I was struck by the juxtaposition of shameful abuse of the landscape and the vastness of the place. Gigantic tracts of untouched desert are a stark contrast to the disgusting appearance of negligence that is apparent along every roadway and in every town.

As more folks come down it seems apparent that development is taking a front seat over conservation. I was struck by how many United States RVers where setting up permanent or semi-permanent camp along the beach. They came to enjoy the very beauty they were destroying.

For example, I was talking to one fellow about how the folks come through and dump bleach in the tide pools to get octopus which they then sell to tourists.

The beach was littered with decapitated hammerhead sharks. Yet, I could still see dolphins jump just off shore. Things are not too late for Baja. But it wont take long.
